LUKE 11 | Sonz 1
In Luke 11 one of Jesus disciples asks Jesus "Teach us how to pray" . Jesus just say's" when you pray say ...
2 He said to them, “When you pray, say:
“Father,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come.
3 Give us each day our daily bread.
4 Forgive us our sins,
for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.
And lead us not into temptation.[”
So if you break it down Jesus is praying to his father who is God.
When he says " hallowed be your name ". Hallowed is just fancy talk for holy or sacred. So he's saying God your name is holy.
"Give us each day our daily bread." He's saying ask God to provide for you each day. Back in the old testament God provided bread for his people the Israelites each day, but just enough for that day. It says in Mathew 6:33 :"Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be added unto you. If we seek God, keep praying to God he will help , take care of you and what you need.
4 Forgive us our sins,
for we also forgive everyone who sins against us
With this God/Jesus is the only one who can take away sins and get you into Heaven. That's how you get in to heaven, Believe in God, ask him to forgive the dumb things we 've done "sin" before we knew God and try and live for him. Forgiving people is part of living for God because people will hurt you, let you down and most of the time those people don't deserve to be forgiven but I know I didn't deserve to be forgiving from God for all the dumb stuff that I've done. God loves us so much that he looks past the dumb stuff and actually forgives us and set he example for us to follow.
"And lead us not into temptation. " Being a person who's trying to follow and live for God it's not easy and I mess up all the time. I need to just keep asking God to give me self control and get through any temptations that come up.
The awesome thing with God is that anyone can pray. Just talking like you are talking to a friend. It's really cool that Jesus's disciples asked to teach how to pray because we need more of it in our lives and we can use this as an example. If you like to see more of the this prayer yo can go to Matthew 6:5 -15
